The World Test Championship is in its last stretch with India and New Zealand set to fight it out in the final at Southampton from 18th June. Having kicked off in 2019 after the ODI World Cup in England, it’s sets to now end this month. India’s Journey to WTC Final started with tour to West indies at Antigua in 2019. The Championship started off in glorious fashion with the Ashes before India joined West Indies in Antigua.

WTC’s initial games promised plenty of action but the coronavirus pandemic has forced ICC to redo their plans. India played total 17 matches is WTC which is second best after ENG. On the other side New Zealand played the least number of Games only 11. India played Away series against West Indies, New Zealand and Australia. Home Series against South Africa, Bangladesh and England. India’s no match got cut short for The Pandemic.

BCCI shared a video of the entire journey from Mumbai to London’s Heathrow airport and then the bus ride to the Ageas Bowl. 

India in West Indies: 2-0 Win

After the World Cup in England, the Virat Kohli-led India started their journey in the Caribbean Islands With a 2-0 Series win. Pace Star Jasprit Bumrah registered a couple of five-wicket hauls in either Test, while Ishant Sharma added one to his name.Hanuma Vihari and Ajinkya Rahane were the stars for India scoring some big runs along the way in the first two Tests. Jasprit Bumrah became the first Asian to take five-wicket hauls in Australia, England, South Africa, and the West Indies.

India registered wins by 318 runs and 257 runs to completely floor the West Indies head in their yard and Put 120 WTC point in their Pocket. It’s India’s stepping stone for the journey to WTC final.

South Africa in India: 3-0 Win

India were back home from the Caribbean and up next Against Proteas, whom they outclassed in the three Tests in Vizag, Pune, and Ranchi.

Rohit Sharma scored 529 runs with 3 centuries including 1 double ton. Mayank Puts a great show with 2 Centuries including one double ton. Kohli scored a double hundred and Rahane a hundred too. Ashwin got 15 wicket including one 5-FERS and Shami and Jadeja got 13 Wicket each. India wins this series convincingly 3-0 and bags 120 WTC points again.

Bangladesh in India: 2-0 Win

India welcomed neighbours Bangladesh after the South Africa series and also played their first ever Pink-ball Test in Kolkata at the Eden Gardens. A one-sided home side proved too much for the visitors and India bagged 120 WTC points charring 100% win percentage so far.

India won both Tests by an innings and 46 runs and 130 runs respectively. In Eden PINK Test the visitors saw plenty of concussion subs, finding Mohammed Shami, Umesh Jadav and Ishant Sharma a bit too hot to handle. In the first Test in Indore, Ishant Sharma and Virat Kohli led the charge for India.

India in New Zealand: 0-2 Lost

India’s perfect record came to a halt when Kane Williamson’s New Zealand comprehensively defeated Kohli’s man with a 2-0 score line. India managed only one score of above 200 in the two-match Test series. India’s batters managed a total of four half-centuries in the two Tests and Virat Kohli unable to get going as India would have liked.

Tim Southee, in Wellington and Kyle Jamieson, in Christchurch, ripped off the India Batting. Kiwis won Wellington and Christchurch Test by 10 and 7 wickets respectively

India in Australia: 2-1 Win

India’s tour down under which began with a disheartening loss at the Adelaide, turned into a memorable chapter in the country’s cricket history.

The Tour started off in Adelaide with the Pink-ball Test. India went to bat on Day 3, were rolled for 36 in second innings on the third morning. Then a shocked India bid good bye to Kohli, who was leaving for paternity leave.

In Melbourne Boxing Day Test Rahane’s century and Mohammed Siraj’s impressive debut gives India a win by eight wickets. It was a remarkable comeback into the three-game series and here come the start of a miracle story.

In Sydney Test India took one body blow after the other, while giving test of patience too. Pant’s last innings excellence, Pujara’s Patience, and Ashwin-Vihari resilience partnership despite both injured brings a Historic draw for India.

In Gabba Test every one expected it will be a Aussie win. They haven’t lost there for almost 27 years but India does a miracle there. In first innings Washington Sundar and Thakur helped India cut short Australia’s innings lead. In second innings Siraj and Thakur both bowled super to bowled Australia out sooner. India has a target 328 for forth innings. Gill, Pujara, Pant helped India to Chased down the target and Pant hit the Winning run. India bags second consecutive Australia tour win.

England in India: 3-1 Win

After Returning from Historic Australia tour India begins their last series of WTC Calendar. It was a four match series. First two matches played in Chennai and last two matches played in Ahmedabad. After renovation of Ahmedabad stadium, first international match was set to play there.

India lost their First match in Chennai which was totally unexpected after down-under win. But India makes a strong comeback and won the last three matches and won the series by 3-1. The arrival of India in WTC Final confirmed after this series win.

Lots of Controversies made in this series for the pitches. Last three matches was played in rank turner. The third match which is played in Narendra Modi stadium was ended in 2 days.

Axar Patel played very well in this series and made himself a future alternate to Jadeja. Pant got his first home test century in last test match. Ashwin as usual made the English batsman life very hard. India’s overall spin bowling helped India win this series.
